Vegeterianism

Vegetarianism is a philosophy, a way of life that forbids the use of animal products in nutrition, clothing or any other purpose.

This lifestyle was chosen for certain reasons:

  • Ethical
  • Personal
  • Health related
  • Religious

“Health problems are caused by eating the wrong food just as they do by not eating the right food”.

Vegetarian diets are often associated with many health benefits, such as lower blood cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, and lower risk of hypertension as well as type 2 diabetes. They tend to be low in saturated fat and cholesterol, but have higher levels of dietary fiber, magnesium and potassium, vitamins C and E, folic acid, carotenoids, flavonoids and other phytochemicals. Vegetarians also tend to have lower carbs and lower body fat rates.

However, in order to follow a vegetarian diet without the risk of nutritional deficiencies occurring, it is advised to consult a certified nutritionist.
