“A meal for two” is a simple, old rule that comes from increased nutritional requirements during pregnancy. But is this the correct way? Energy needs increase by 15% of normal during the second and third month of pregnancy, while the requirements for many vitamins and minerals rise up to 20-50%. Thus, during pregnancy, a balanced diet rich in nutrient-dense foods is essential.
